“Clean Jerks” is an exercises where the athlete cleans the weight from the floor and drives out of the front squat straight into the split jerk. A clean jerk is basically a clean thruster, except the athlete drives themselves underneath the weight for a jerk. This exercise is very important for teaching the athlete to finish their leg drive in order to make a jerk. The athlete has no other option but to give the leg drive, coming out of the front squat, 110% effort in order to complete the jerk. Clean jerks also teach the lifter to keep an upright torso through the reception of the clean, because this vertical torso is crucial for completing the jerk. Clean jerks should be performed as triples up to 83% of your best jerk.
